Thinking of buying a printer?

We can supply almost any printer at a competitive price and also offer a free, no obligation advisory service.

Points to Consider:

  1. Do you want to print in colour?
  2. Do you want to print photos, documents or both?
  3. Do you want to print lots of copies at a fast speed?
  4. Would you like to print duplex (two sides at once)?
  5. Do you want a multifunctional machine - Scanner, Copier, Fax?
  6. Do you know how much the ink or toner will cost for you new printer? Many people do not look into this and are often surprised at the cost of cartridges for their new printer.

If you bear these points in mind we can then advise you on what is available, how much it will cost and give you an idea of the running costs.

Small photo printers

Small photo printers are ideal for printing photos directly from a digital camera. They are designed to take two different sizes of paper (6 x 4 inches or 7 x 5 Inches). They are easy to use, portable and provided you do not want to print larger images they are great. You do not need to own a computer to print your photos.

All-in-one printers

All-in-one printers combine a printer, scanner and photocopier and sometimes even a fax facility. You can buy inkjet or laser all-in-one printers - lasers are better for heavier use. Large photos can be printed but look out for a printer with a memory card slot and ideally an LCD screen. An automatic document feeder is also a good idea if you plan on doing a lot of photocopying.

Inkjet Printers

Inkjet printers are great for documents and photographs (both small and large). Most are A4 printers but some will print A3 size. The cartridges are lower priced than the laser cartridges, although not always better value for money.

Laser Printers

If you don't want to print just photos then a laser printer could be for you. They tend to be more expensive than inkjet printers but the running cost is less. Laser cartridges cost more than inkjet cartridges but their page yield is considerably higher. Laser printers are quick to print and are the best option when your demands and printing standards are quite high.

Shredders

Thinking of buying a shredder?

For security, shredding many of your unused documents has now become very important. Personal and office shredders can do the job for you but choosing the best for your needs can be complicated.

Points to consider:

Strip-Cut

Strip-Cut shredders, also known as straight-cut or spaghetti-cut, cut the paper into long strips. Shredding widths may vary and obviously the narrower the strip the greater the security. The strips do not compress well and so the bin will need emptying frequently if you shred a lot of documents.

Cross-Cut

Cross-cut shredders cut the paper into confetti-like pieces, providing even greater security than the Strip-cut shredder. The pieces compress more and so the bin will not require emptying so often as the strip-cut shredder. However, they usually cost more.

How much will you shred?

It is important to buy a shredder that will cope with the volume you shred. Shredders can easily burn out if you choose the wrong one. For low users, a personal shredder will shred approximately 100-150 A4 sheets a day with no problem. For higher volumes, you will need to go beyond a personal shredder.

Also take into consideration the number of sheets that can be shredded at one time as shredding one or two sheets at a time can be frustrating when you have over 100 sheets to shred!

Take a look at the throat of the shredder, make sure it is big enough to shred the size of document you require, especially if you do not want to fold the document first.

Extra features

Whilst extra features are always good to have they usually cost more. Some shredders have a light or buzzer to alert you to paper jams or a full basket. Shredders with a clear basket eliminate the need to know when it is full. A reverse feed is a useful feature to clear the inevitable paper jam.

A shredder that can cope with paper clips and stables is almost a necessity in an office situation. Some shredders will even shred credit cards and CDs.

Shredders come in different colours too if this is a consideration. Black, white and silver are the most common.

What else will you need to buy?

It is a good idea to lubricate the blades of your shredder regularly with a specially formulated oil. You may also require waste shredder sacks for easy collection or storage of shreddings. Shreddings can then be re-used as protective packaging if required.
