When will my Epson Drum Unit need replacing?
An Epson drum unit will need replacing after approximately 15,000 - 45,000 pages depending upon the model of the printer. The drum will gradually lose its charge and toner will not be attracted to the image and even dumped into the printer. Your printer will normally bring up a message telling you to replace the drum.
How Does An Epson Drum Unit Work?
- The Epson drum unit rotates and it is positively charged.
- An electrostatic image is formed when a laser beam emits light onto the surface of the Epson drum.
- Particles of charged toner are attracted to the image.
- The paper passes the drum unit and a negative charge is applied.
- The toner is drawn away from the drum surface and deposited on the paper.
- The image is fixed by rollers (heat and pressure).
- The finished document can then be printed.
