Canon Colour Ink Cartridges | Canon Photo Ink Cartridges

Canon colour ink cartridges will either come combined in one cartridge with separate tanks for cyan, magenta & yellow, or as individual cyan, magenta and yellow ink cartridges.

N.B. Canon also manufacture a 4-colour ink cartridge in which the fourth colour is black, usually a photo ink cartridge.

Canon Tri-Colour and 4-Colour Ink Cartridges

  • Only one ink cartridge to buy and replace.
  • The combination cartridge is usually cheaper than replacing three or four individual ink cartridges.
  • In 4-colour cartridges the black photo ink is included, making it easy, cheap and ideal for printing photos.
  • The single multi-coloured Canon cartridge has a combined printhead, making it convenient and easy to replace.
  • Printing speeds are slightly faster.

The disadvantages of using a tri-colour or a 4-colour ink cartridge in your printer are:

  • When one colour runs out the whole cartridge will need to be replaced in order to get true colour prints.
  • If one particular colour is used more often than the rest then the remaining colour inks are often wasted. This can happen when printing logos, letterheads and other such colour crucial documents.
  • Although the initial cost of individual colour cartridges is more, it actually works out cheaper as every drop of ink is used up.
